Victorian Workshop

This project reimagines a generous Victorian family home in Wandsworth, London, transforming four floors into a series of characterful, highly tailored spaces. Designed for a growing family, the brief was to make the most of the home’s grand proportions and exceptional ceiling heights while creating a warm, liveable environment that feels both contemporary and timeless.

The house underwent a full renovation from lower ground to top floor, with each level re-planned to improve flow, light and connection between spaces. Existing rooms were opened up or re-zoned to better support family life, entertaining and quieter moments of retreat. The design celebrates the verticality of the house, using carefully considered details to anchor the soaring ceilings and create a sense of intimacy where needed.

The interior balances the elegance of a Victorian family home with a subtle industrial edge. Traditional architectural features are retained and refined, then juxtaposed with robust, tactile materials and clean-lined joinery. The result is a home that feels layered and collected, with a distinctive character that still respects the building’s heritage. Collaborating with Blakes kitchen was a perfect match for our joint vision.

A rich material palette is central to the scheme. Polished plaster is used in unexpected ways, including bespoke kitchen cabinetry that brings a soft, light-catching sheen to the heart of the home. Burnt timber introduces depth and grain, grounding the high ceilings and adding a crafted, almost workshop-like quality to key joinery elements. Grasscloth wallpaper wraps selected rooms in texture, softening acoustics and adding warmth, while a glossy cocktail bar provides a glamorous counterpoint with reflective lacquered surfaces that catch the light by night.
