The art of Scandinavian living
We often get asked what is Scandinavian living to us? We believe it’s the ability to balance clean lines and function with welcoming texture and warmth. Cat Dal Interiors is rooted in the Scandinavian design ethos, we strive to create interior spaces that maximise and improves the daily lifestyle of their inhabitants while still embracing the hygge philosophy.
What does hygge mean firstly? Hygge isn’t just a word, it’s a concept and way of life. It’s about surrounding yourself with things that make you feel good, like warmth, light, cosiness and good design!
There’s certainly an art to creating a sleek, minimal style feel warm and inviting, the key is to use a blend of textures and a paired back palette. Scandinavian design is renowned for keeping spaces simple and knowing just the right amount of layering to add to create a cosy and comfortable interior.
Due to the long dark winters, Scandinavian interiors embrace the great outdoors and aim to bring the outside in as much as possible. We look to give our clients a taste of Scandinavian living in London by investing in beautiful timbers and rich materials. In our Primrose Hill apartment with incorporated a striking dark stained timber into stand-out joinery design and bespoke kitchen. This allows the spaces to effortlessly flow in to one another creating a seamless and cohesive design. What we know about Scandinavian style, is that less is more when it comes to materials, which we use as a guide in our day to day designing.
We can’t not mention some of our Scandinavian design heroes such as Louis Poulsen and Hans Wegner. Good furniture and lighting design is at the heart of Scandi design. Craftsmanship is something that is taken seriously, it isn’t enough for items to just be aesthetically pleasing, they also need to be well-made and functional. We like to invest in everyday items for our clients, such as chairs and tables knowing that certain materials that look better with age like wood and leather.
