A Week on my Feet
Ever considered what a week in the life of an interior designer looks like? Perhaps. But have you ever considered what a week of an interior designer’s feet looks like? Well, Luxury Flooring have taken inspiration from the amazing Instagram account: ‘I Have This Thing with Floors’, with their campaign ‘A Week on My Feet’ and they have asked me to be involved. (please ignore the bad feet)
MONDAY
After an early morning sprints class (hence the bad feet) I headed straight to the Chelsea Design Centre to look for inspiration for my residential Primrose Hill client. I was on the hunt for masculine muted fabrics with texture, matt black bathroom taps, gorgeous statement pendants and kitchen surface ideas. It’s an amazing place to gather samples, and be inspired but after 4 hours my head is swimming with patterns, so I head back to the office to play with my sample board, and edit down the choices.
TUESDAY
After a few hours in the office catching up on admin and ordering samples, I went to a site we are developing in Belgravia. The mews house has been completely gutted, so at this stage we were just checking on the structural work with the structural engineer, which is fascinating to actually see how buildings are made from the very start. Next up they will build down to create a basement level. After site, I made homemade pesto pasta for lunch and then back to the desk to call in more samples.
WEDNESDAY
I am refurbishing my own flat in Tufnell Park, so every two days I make sure I’m on site to answer builder’s questions, check on progress, give them updated drawings and make sure we are on deadline! We are building a dormer into our attic space to make room for an ensuite for our master bedroom, as well as replacing the downstairs bathroom and kitchen. It has been mostly smooth so far, apart from the builders suffering from some 30C days! I meet my husband in Hackney and I fill him in on the works over cocktails and dinner at the fabulous The Richmond where I captured the (above) painted wooden floors. I love researching the latest bars and restaurant openings in London, (see my reviews) they are so inspirational, particularly for cost effective design.
THURSDAY
Today my client are out and about to choose pendants for his kitchen, we head to Great Titchfield Street to check out Fritz Hansen’s stunning Scandinavian collection. Naturally we treat ourselves to lunch at my favourite smorgasbord at nearby Scandinavian Kitchen and then I head on to an art exhibition, where I snapped this monochrome tiled floor.
FRIDAY
Samples are flying in the door for a family house I’m working on in North London. These gorgeous tiles are from Marrakesh Design and I am looking forward to use them for one of the children’s bathroom floor. I love all the cement tile samples- but I am berating myself for choosing them as they are SO heavy to carry to all the client meetings!
SATURDAY
After a game of tennis in the morning and eggs on toast, its back to our flat to check on the developments. It’s looking great, but not due to be finished for at least 4-5 more weeks. Later we wonder around Broadway Market and have a drink at my favourite Bistrotheque, before heading to the gorgeously designed, plant-heaven Bourne and Hollingsworth for a friend’s birthday (check out my instagram)
SUNDAY
I got to stop wearing these shoes! Sunday is all about newspaper and coffee time. Well, until about 4pm, when we then meet friends in Shoreditch House and discuss weekend adventures and where in the world we would like to visit. I snap this change of flooring on my way out- slightly disturbed by how it matches up, but loving the idea of herringbone materials merging.
